Every year the New Zealand Automobile Association holds awards for the latest car models.

For the ‘Car of the Year’ 2017 awards, a car was eligible if it was released during the time period of 1st October 2016 – 30th September 2017. Guild members and judges from the AA drove all 10 cars and marked them based on factors such as design, quality and value.

The model finalists were the following:

  • BMW 5 series
  • Holden Astra
  • Honda Civic hatch
  • Hyundai Ioniq
  • Land Rover Discovery
  • Mazda CX-5
  • ŠKODA Kodiaq
  • Subaru XV
  • Suzuki Ignis
  • Suzuki Swift

And the winner is...

The ŠKODA Kodiaq!

  • Luxury car – BMW 5 Series
